History
CLC was started by Phillip Lett, PhD after he completed his dissertation research on Treatment Compliance with Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Clients in 1988.  What came to light from this research is that stopping the use of psychoactive substances is not the biggest challenge for many persons with alcohol or other drug use problems.  The  biggest challenge is maintaining change or preventing a return to using psychoactive substances. Additionally, Dr. Lett's research clearly suggests that some counselors are more effective than others at helping people change addictive behavior.  As a result, Dr. Lett developed the CLC program in 1989.
CLC has provided outpatient substance abuse assessment and treatment services to over 2126 persons in the Phoenix area since 1991.  CLC has and continues to train, supervise and facilitate the growth and development of professionals and graduate students in the assessment and treatment of psychoactive substance use disorders in the greater Phoenix area.
