The Center for Lifestyle Change

Without question, alcohol and other psychoactive substance abuse is one of the major issues facing our society. The Center for Lifestyle Change (CLC) is committed to providing highly effective and cost efficient assessment and treatment for people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives related to the use of alcohol or other drugs. Our program is based on evidenced based research in the area of alcohol and other drug assessment and treatment and incorporates a broad spectrum of approaches designed to treat the whole person.  CLC is licensed by the State of Arizona Department of Behavioral Health as an Outpatient Facility.

Substance Use Evaluation

The first step in the treatment process is to gain a thorough understanding of the person seeking treatment. The better we know the person, the more effective treatment can be. A typical evaluation may include the following components:

  • Initial assessment and clinical interview with the individual
  • Psychological / psychometric evaluation, if required
  • Addiction medicine specialist evaluation or consultation, if needed
  • Psychiatric consultation with psychiatrist with an addiction specialty, if needed
  • Provision of objective feedback to the client and available community resources

Levels of Care in CLC’s Outpatient Treatment Program

Based on the information gathered during the assessment procedures, a decision is made about the level of treatment that best suits the needs of each individual client. In order to accommodate varying needs of this diverse group, CLC offers a five level outpatient treatment program.

  • Levels I and II are assessment and educational in nature (3 to 10 sessions)
  • Level III offers 30 sessions in 10 weeks
  • Level IV offers 40 sessions in 10 weeks
  • Level V offers 50 sessions in 10 weeks

Treatment sessions can be offered over 10,15 or 20 weeks depending on individual needs. Clients receive individual and family therapy, group therapy, education group therapy, and relapse prevention group therapy. Individual therapy and case management, relapse prevention skills acquisition and family involvement are critical components of our treatment program. During the course of treatment, clients agree to participate in random drug screens. Most CLC clients participate in continuing care after completing the intensive portion of the program. Clients are also introduced to and encouraged to participate in community support groups (i.e. AA, NA or CA.)

It should be noted that assessment is an ongoing process. At times, as new information becomes available about clients in treatment, it becomes necessary to modify the level of treatment they are receiving. By being flexible and allowing movement from one level of treatment to another (up or down,) it is possible to tailor the treatment process to the unique needs of the individual.
